yTrekking & Viewz@ 4. Lake Kawaguchi Course / Toukai Nature Road@

This is the fourth course on the Tokai Nature Trail. If we were to connect it to the previous course, there's a route that goes from Azegamaru, through Komotsurushiyama, Ishiwariyama, and Oshino Hakkai, to Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine (hereafter referred to as "Sengen Shrine" for brevity), but it looks like a very challenging route, so I'll postpone that course for now.

This time, I first took the train to Fujikyu Railway's Fujisan Station, walked from there to Sengen Shrine, and used that as my starting point. I then walked a route that went through Ashiwadayama (Gokodai), Sankodai, and Momijidai to the Momijidai Entrance bus stop. @@@(Nihedon @ KesaranPasaran Lab)

This is "Sankodai." This was the most open area on our itinerary.

š It was a truly pleasant hiking trail. š

It seems there's a riding club at the foot of the mountain.

It seems the Tokai Nature Trail isn't a "single-path route."

The "Kawaguchiko area course" I walked this time involved starting from Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, following National Route 139, briefly leaving the highway, crossing it again, and climbing to Ashiwadayama (Gokodai). I thought this was the "official" route, but as you can see from the sign in the photo I'll show later, there's also a "Tokai Nature Trail" sign for the route from Danwayama (located east of Ashiwadayama) towards Ashiwadayama.

Well, this kind of thing happens often even on national highways, but for someone who wants to complete the entire Tokai Nature Trail, figuring out what to do about these "deviations from the single-path route" is a bit of a dilemma, haha.

š While we're at it, let me introduce you to Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine. š

The "Fuji Taro Cedar," said to be 1000 years old, boasts a trunk circumference of over 8 meters.

This is the "Tachigyo Stone," where it is said that Kakugyo, the founder of the "Fuji-ko" (Fuji pilgrimage), performed a 30-day ascetic practice by standing on his fingertips on this stone.

ACCESS :

You can reach "Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine" in 10 minutes on foot from "Fujisan Station" on the "Fujisanroku Electric Railway", but it takes about 2 hours to walk from there to the hiking trail, so it's better to take a taxi.
